Outside at the Museum Area many historic items are on display, includinging small 19th century boats and sheds. Possibly the most notable item on display at the museum is the 86-tonne two-masted ketch Sigurfari, built of oak on the Humber in England in 1885. It was used for handline fishing in Icelandic waters until 1919, and later in the Faroe Islands into the early 1970’s. Sigurfari is the only ship of this kind from the first years of decked fishing ships in Iceland. Sigurfari now needs to be restored and therefore it is no longer possible to step on board and enjoy the view from the deck.
